Playing Catch Up

December 16, 2007

I’ve been starring items in Google Reader to go back and reread, check out the links, or whatever. I am up to 182 items. So now it’s time go back through that. Lots of links, news, and snarky comments so I’m going with bullets today :)

  • Wantzit is designed for Christmas but I’m thinking this will be good all year long. If you have del.icio.us simply bookmark that book, sweater, or electronic with “dowant” and it will appear in your own wantzit site-providing you sign up. Check mine out here-it’s rather slim though.
  • A question on one of the blogs I read from a while back asks when we start celebrating the holidays. First Saturday in December is the answer. Used to be when we lived in Missouri that the Christmas parade was held on that Saturday morning. The day would be spent getting and putting up a tree and decorations. Oh, and we never had a fake tree growing up. Perhaps that’s why I want a really one really bad.
  • Fast Food Restaurant Gift Cards. If you’re giving this someone for Christmas-man you must really be desperate. Is there no other restaurant to give them a gift card to? This is as bad, IMO, as a gas station card. Unless it was like a hundred dollars of gas. That would call for a road trip!
  • Went through my 400+ recipe links on del.icio.us and got them sorted even more. I’ve put pie, cake, candy, hamburger etc on the tags so if I am looking for something specifically then I know where to look. Now, I just need to go through the rest of my delicious and delete what isn’t a viable link but sort my tags into the bigger bundles. May have that done by the end of the week :) Done with getting everything into bundles-I’m on fire with getting things done!
  • Country comic Jim Nesbitt passed away recently. Also passing away recently was Shenandoah’s bass guitarist Ralph Ezell at age 54 from a heart attack.
  • Evel Knievel also passed this year. Ike Turner has also passed away-he was Tina Turner’s ex-husband.
  • Interestingblog entry about leading a mysterious life. Basically-break up your routine and try something new. Great idea! Now how about implementing this instead of just passing it by?
  • I am at the hubby’s work and he’s listening to Pandora. Love me Pandora. He was listening to country but all that twang was getting to me. He flipped to a “decent rock station.” It’s loud crap that makes my head throb and my ears bleed. Ain’t marriage grand?
  • Tulsa and Oklahoma in general is slowing powering back up after the ice storm of last weekend. Early Saturday morning saw a convoy of at least eight utility trucks headed into Broken Arrow, another 20+ at the IHOP, and at least 5 turning onto the highway. Slowly but surely things are becoming normal.
  • The great big snowstorm missed us-yeah! Did get a dusting of snow but the streets are for the most part clear. It’s gonna get cold tonight so any water on them will freeze. Thank God we didn’t get like 6 inches or something.
  • There was only a handful of libraries open on Wednesday and there was a camera crew from a local news crew in filming people at the library. I was shelving some juvenile fiction when the came through but quickly moved to another section. I don’t want my big butt and blue undies on the TV!!
  • Really neat article at Tulsa World about the ice storm.

I think that’s about it for now. I may have more today/tonight/Tuesday. Have a great day!

Finality

December 8, 2007

I have a question-what are the family protocols for losing a family member in your family?  Is there one specific person who calls around, perhaps an older aunt or cousin? My family is pretty cut and dried-nine times out of ten grandma will be the one to call her kids-my mom and her three sisters. They are responsible for telling their children about the passing. When my grandpa passed, one of my aunts made the phone call. One of my sisters took the call and started gathering the family around mom.

I just don’t know how to quite handle this situation though. Chris and I slept through most of the day, then had a good afternoon with me running to get spaghetti fixings. We ate supper and lazed around watching TV this evening. Chris got ready for work and I put a movie in. At 1015 pm the computer pinged with an IM-it was my hubby. Seems his Uncle Frank passed away sometime late last night/early this morning. No one contacted him till he got to work. There was an email sent to security that Chris’ uncle who worked in another department had a brother passed away and that there was a card available if anyone wanted to sign. That’s how Chris found out about his Uncle passing away.

Chris called his folks and was understandable upset with them. To the degree that he ignored their repeated phone calls back. I got up here and Chris was just a wreck. How is he suppose to work in this condition? Why didn’t someone somewhere call?

His dad called while I was sitting up here and talked to me some. He gave me the time and place of the rosary and service. His dad (R) said that the nursing home that the Uncle was at called R and his mom (E) to let them know and to tell E’s parents. The Uncle had a child that R and E has been raising so there was her to deal with in addition to dealing with funeral arrangements and her parents.

Understandably things were busy and chaotic and emotional. Still. Don’t put off for tomorrow what can be done today. It was said that when they got the call they were sure that Chris was already asleep for the day. Well, there are just somethings you just wake us day-sleepers up for. Like deaths in the family. At least Chris would have the day to grieve and prepare mentally for work.

In many ways this has hit Chris hard because of the finality of it. While the Uncle wasn’t doing well I don’t think anyone is ever expected to pass on. We’ve got a live forever mentality. And we don’t live forever. So my question is: Is there anything you need to say, do, feel, or deal with? If this was your last day, last minute, last breath is there anything you would fix, love, communicate, or just express? And more importantly, why are you waiting. Life and death, as my hubby has been saying, is final.

And from a Christian standpoint let me just say that there is a heaven and there is a hell. Are you comfortable with the direction your going?

Money and cars

August 31, 2007

We’ve decided to sell my car. I’ve put in my resume and application at a few places and have had no response. Neither of us want me to go back to the hotel business. Several reasons for not wanting to be in hospitality again but the main thing is I guess for now I will stay home a bit longer.

We don’t have internet at home and I don’t think we will have it for a few more days. Money is so incredibly tight at the moment and that is partly behind the reason for sellign the car. There is a car dealer in town that supposedly will buy used cars so I will call them tomorrow along with the bank who has the loan on my car for a payoff balance. Betsy will be gone soon. In reality I don’t drive my car too often-maybe once or twice the hubbies work on the weekends.

Well, I think I am going to boogie here. Y’all have a great weekend.

Hi!

August 17, 2007

I’ve placed my recent del.icio.us links on the sidebar but here recently I’ve just been put “xx” on the things I want to come back to so I am going to sort through them. This is just plain weird. It’s tattoo’s that look like the muscles an whatnot under your skin. I don’t know what to think of this.

WordPress wasn’t working with me last night so I thought I would give it a shot at the moment. Here goes nothing!

It’s Hot

August 14, 2007

Just how hot is it?

Bad joke to be had there somewhere. It’s the third day of 100+ temps. Currently at 615 pm it’s 102. Today’s high was 104.

It’s so hot I’m sitting here with the A/C turned to 70 and it’s reading an internal temp of 82.

It’s so hot I’m sitting here in bra, panties, and bib overall shorts. Maybe, that’s too much info.

It’s so hot I’m looking forward to only 98° on Thursday.

Bangor Maine’s current temp is 68° with a low 51°.

I’m moving to Maine.

Oklahoma in August sucks. It also sweats. Like pigs headed to slaughter.

Heat! Humidity! Heat! Humidity!

Get your heat and humidity right here!

I got too much sleep!

August 4, 2007

I don’t like to sleep at night without the hubby. I’m 28 and haven’t outgrown the Boogie Man/Bad Man scare. At 630 am I was in bed. At 1000 am I let the hubby in the back door and promptly went back to bed. I got up around 500 pm and felt so rested. I haven’t felt this rested in a long time!!

There’s a new John Grisham book coming out on the 24th. It’s called Playing for Pizza. It’s not the typical legal thriller but a sports book set in Italy. I’m number 292 on the library hold shelf for this!

It’s hot. I know, it’s August. It’s Oklahoma. I found a couple of online calculators to figure the Heat Index. This is somehow combining the actual air temp with the humidity percentage to figure out how hot it feels. I actually found two but the one I like is here . I like it because I can figure out windchill here, among a few other calculators. It’s 745 pm here in Tulsa. The temp in 90° and the humidity is 52%. It feels like 96° out there at almost 800 pm. I think next year we will summer in Bangor, Maine. It’s only 74° there.

Well, it’s time to go get things accomplished. I hope this is a great weekend! Ciao!

A really big post!

August 1, 2007

The hubby is headed back to work tonight after having five days off. It’s about time :D

We got paid today-he did, rather-and we’re broke. I just know that God will bless us. We need to borrow from the in-laws and I will probably be calling my mom next week some time to see if she can buy me some meat. I know we will make it. This is a learn and live thing-get stupid with the budget and you end up in deep trouble.

I took our Dish network done to a lower payment plan today-so some of my faves are no longer available. I’m thinking about checking in November, when the contract is up, what the local cable company would be like. Maybe we can get a combo package cause our internet is through them.

Found a great link today to the Tulsa Health Department that lets you check on the restaurant’s inspection. Rather interesting to know how your favorite eating out place did.

There’s a British company that will make you some awesome wallpaper. This isn’t your grandmother’s wallpaper. This stuff makes it look like your in Rome or in a forest. Check out Surface View.

Can I just admit I don’t like social networking site? No Facebook or the other one, no social sites really at all please. You see, in my life, I am so content without a social scene I don’t wish to have one online. Pathetic, isn’t it?

Going through and resorting my del.icio.us links. What a chore! However, discovered you can get a few sample of Folger’s Gourmet Coffee. Sweet! More coffee!

Josh Hancock’s family has dropped the lawsuit. Just tragedy on tragedy. A bridge collapsed in Minneapolis/St Paul, Minnesota. It was an eight lane bridge on I-35. Get the story here.

I really like this idea: Big Orange Michael is reminding us (or for those of us in the dark letting us know) that August is Happiness Month. The thing to do is simply write one thing that makes you happy. Today it’s several: having the house to myself, awesome homemade pizza, music, and not having to work. What is making you happy today?

Y’all have a great day! Ciao!

Feast One Hundred & Thirty Six And what does a Pa…

March 23, 2007

Feast One Hundred & Thirty Six

And what does a Partridge in a Pear tree got to do with anything? Perhaps you ought to read on to find out…

Appetizer Who is your favorite news anchor/reporter? Why?

Mmm…toughie. Don’t watch a lot of news. Most newscasters drive me crazy. Guess I don’t have a fave.

Soup Name 3 foods that are currently in your freezer. Veggies, roast and a chicken, ice and ice cream, two cans of coffee, ice pack and a partridge in a pear tree. Actually I don’t think a pear tree would fit :)

Salad If you were to have the opportunity to name a new town or city, what would you call it? Idiotsville-and of course anyone that pissed me off would get banished and not allowed to play with the rest of the world. (Just mildly cranky this morning, aren’t I?)

Main Course What will most likely be the next book you read? Anything I can get my hands on-I am overdue at the library so I’ve got to go clear that out. But I am out of books. OUT! Must have book today!

Dessert What’s the first thing you notice about the opposite gender? Their attitude. And where they look at me. (My face gents, not the ladies on my chest.)

Low Fat

November 9, 2006
For Chris’ health insurance we needed to get a him a physical/check up done. We got that accomplished this weekend. Also got blood and urine work up done, a chest x-ray, more test scheduled. Found out that he has high cholesterol so we’re on a low fat diet. Still trying to get info on that and find out exactly what needs to be done. Busy weekend.
When you think about it, going on a low fat diet is kind of perversely funny. I tend to avoid anything that says “low fat” in it because a) I am afraid it will taste awful and b) I’d think that I’m healthy as a horse. Well, we are healthy as a horse, but this horse has to start eating better. So now I get to hunt down all the “low fat” items that I can.
I’ve got a job interview tomorrow (today, whatever). Still not sure what to think of everything. It felt this way after I got the job at Comfort and hadn’t left Hampton yet. Sort of surreal and that everything was going better. Am I really leaving? Sooner or later, yes.
I ate just before I blogged and now I’m sleepy. Today I’ve got to hit the library. Didn’t get to it on my day’s off. I’ve got several things to get off of the hold shelf. Including some Anne Murray and Robert Randolf. Yes, my musical taste are eclectic.
Short post I know but I’m off. Ciao!
