Rain

June 28, 2007

It’s rained again here in Tulsa. It’s wet and muggy and soggy and old. So here’s some songs about the rain. Most of them are off the top of my head and I never want to hear them till it’s August and hot, humid, and brown.
  1. Rainy Day Women No. 12 & 35 by Bob Dylan
  2. Early Morning Rain-Gordon Lightfoot
  3. It Must Be Raining-David Cassiday
  4. Here Comes the Rain Again-Eurythmics
  5. I’m No Stranger to the Rain-Keith Whitley
  6. Rainy Day People-Gordon Lightfoot
  7. Kentucky Rain-Elvis Presley
  8. Who Will Stop the Rain-CCR
  9. Songs About Rain-Gary Allen
  10. Mandolin Rain-Bruce Hornsby and the Range
  11. November Rain-GNR
  12. I Love a Rainy Night-Eddie Rabbit
  13. I Wish it Would Rain Down-Phil Collins/Genesis
  14. Singing in the Rain
  15. Rain, rain go away…

The pics aren’t the greatest but it was at a real gully-washer, puddle-filler, heavens are angry downpour. How many more days?

Gordon Lightfoot

June 28, 2007
So the anniversary was okay. We went to a Gordon Lightfoot concert with my parents. There’s actually a little back-story here. My dad had several Lightfoot LPs and would play them in the evening to put us to sleep. It’s music that both comforts and soothes me. I knew so many songs that he played-I was singing along up in the balcony. He finished with one of my absolutely favorite songs-Old Dan’s Records. It was so incredibly awesome.
So not much else happened over the weekend-Chris slept a lot. I figured he would as working six days weeks kinda suck. I took supper up tonight and we ate together.
I’ve been playing around trying to come up with something to say-but nothing. Then there’s the pinging of the chat as my sweet hubby sends me something else. I’m just going to go-y’all have a great day!

Our First Anniversary!

June 26, 2007
Today is my first anniversary. Chris and I were married on June 26, 2006 here in Tulsa Oklahoma. We had been dating for six months and I am sure there were some in both families that wandered what the big rush is but we were living together and knew that it was wrong. We also knew that we couldn’t live without each other as we had already opened Pandora’s Box. Se we were wed.
Last night and this morning has me thinking a lot about the time line of events. Last night I was thinking about where I worked and going in the night before I got married. This morning thinking about going over to my mothers to sleep a few hours. Seeing my grandma when I came in the door. Lying down in my mom’s bed and then having one of my sisters get me up and take me out to lunch. Running to the flower shop to pick up the flowers and going to Wal-Mart to get a gift for Chris. It was a silver watch with a blue face that he loves to wear.
Two of my sisters did my hair and makeup and it took a while. Then it was back to my mom’s to watch everyone getting ready.
We made it to the chapel around 430-500 am and I changed. I hadn’t talked to Chris all day and was really wanting to talk to him so bad. My sister sat with me and I slipped into hose and slip and a two-piece dress suite. It’s off white or cream with a nice trimming in loop-de-doos around the bottom of the jacket. Earrings were put on and pearls my mother gave me. A few pictures were taken with my mom and grandma. And I paced. I asked about Chris and was so incredibly nervous.
My mom asked me if I was sure-and I was. I just hate being the focus of attention. Then mom was seated along with grandma. The lady that worked there came and got me. My dad met me at the back of the church. I gave him one last instruction-to say “Her mother and I do” to that question.
Then the music swelled, everyone stood and looked to the back of the church, and then Chris came out. This incredibly sense of peace came over me-it was going to be okay. It’s just Chris. With gum in his mouth!
Doors opened and then dad and I were walking down the aisle. My big goofball made like he was worshiping me and a true smile spread across my face. My dad said his thing, my arm was placed in Chris’, and I ordered him to spit out the gum. He didn’t. Gee, things have really changed :)
We said our I dos, lit a candle, and tried really hard to just hang on to each other. Then I could finally kiss him again and we were presented as Mr. and Mrs. Chris Coffey.
I made it down the aisle (without ending up on my face) and I think we both took our first breath of the day. I remember just looking at each other and grinning. Our families came to the back to shake hands. We mingled for a few minutes. Then went to eat at Western Sizzlin. At the Sizzlin you can order a steak and then hit the all-you-can-eat buffet. Chris and I both had salads. We just about couldn’t eat.We cut cake and drank apple juice. Then it was off.
His parents put us up for the night in the Embassy Suites. We spent a couple of hours in the suite and then realized-we were both hungry! So it was off to Burger King for a Whopper and fries.
We sat and ate on the sofa and opened gifts to each other. He like his watch and he gave me expensive perfume that I really wanted (Mackie by Bob Mackie). We talked and laughed. And eventually, a new day was upon us.
I loved every minute of our day. Nothing big, nothing fancy, but it was just right for the two of us. And it’s been quite the year.
There have been times I wanted to strangle him or send him over Niagara falls in a barrel. And I am sure he has felt the same way. But we have many more good days than bad ones and I fall a little deeper in love with my hubby every day.
I should apologize for the long post but I won’t. Time will eventually make details fuzzy and hard to remember. And what are anniversaries for but a time to look back and remember. Happy anniversary, sweetheart.

Morning Sky Over Tulsa

June 24, 2007
The hubby and I were chatting this morning as we usually do and he mentioned the morning sky looked unusual.

So I stepped outside with the camera and snapped away.

The sky was blue and the clouds dark blue and pink.

The grass was dewy and wet on my feet.
It was just really nice to be alive this morning.
To share a sunset with the hubby and have cool, wet toes.
Thank you Lord for this morning and this day.

Music!

June 22, 2007
I’ve uncovered a CD case of music my hubby has and have been putting on the ‘puter here lately. Lots of Christian music-Jars of Clay and Phil Joel and Audio Adrenaline. Good stuff Maynard. It’s only 210 am here in Tulsa and I’ve got things to be done but my momentum has decreased to zero. I’m chatting with the hubby. I can’t seem to do anything else which becomes mildly frustrating. However, this insane schedule should end soon and then he won’t have the time to be chatting all the time. I guess I shouldn’t be complaining that he wants to spend time with me.
I am no good company tonight so I’m going to scoot on out of here. Ciao!

AFI and random stuff

June 21, 2007
I haven’t blogged since Sunday! Where does the time go? For those that missed it or aren’t in the States, AFI (American Film Institute) had their Top 100 list tonight. So I wanted to post some thoughts on that.
Looks like Chris’ six days weeks are about to come to an end, thank God. He’s gotten so cranky here lately. Just wanna slap the hubby! But with a little extra love and some chocolate chip cookies he will be okay.
So, for the list of 100 years…100 movies…10th anniversary addition you can go here and it’s a .pdf file. So I want to go over what I’ve seen and what I think of movies, and yes this could be a lengthy post. I’ve been working off of the old list for about two years now to catch up on some classics. But first, what did they miss, in my opinion, that should have made the list. The Spaghetti westerns of Clint Eastwood-Fist Full of Dollars perhaps. Steel Magnolias should be on this list. For a great laugh how about Smokey and the Bandit which is something I can watch over and over. How about Midway which was a great war film. More John Wayne :)
So what I’ve seen and what I thought of the movie:
Toy Story I think I saw this in the movies and my mom has a copy. I loved Toy Story with Tim Allen and Tom Hanks voice this was a classic then and just gets better. One of those movies with something for kids and adults.
The French Connection I liked this one too-but then I like Gene Hackman. Mr Hackman plays a cop who’s just barely a good cop. Disregards whats around him and goes for the guy he is after. I like Roy Schneider in this movie. Very good and one I would like to have.
Forrest Gump Can I just say I hate Gump. Do not like it at all. I was rolling my eyes through this movie-I felt like if there was a moment Forrest could have he had it-war, love, meet the president, ping pong, and Lt Dan. Not going to be replayed in my house.
In the Heat of the Night The movie starred Sidney Poiter and Rod Steiger. I love this movie and was something I had seen prior to the list. In fact, if I can catch it on cable I will sit and watch.
The Silence of the Lambs The movie that gives everyone the creeps. In fact I’ve got this urge to turn around right now. Moving right along.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid What can I honestly say about this film that everyone else has said? Growing up on westerns I found this movie to be wonderful, charming, and a great introduction to “adult” westerns.
Saving Private Ryan What a great movie about going to find a private in the great big WWII. I didn’t think Tom Hanks could be killed. Great movie.
Unforgiven Can anyone say that this is their absolute fave movie? It’s dark, gruesome, and violent much like the west it really does portray.
Raiders of the Lost Ark I think everyone loves this movie-from my little brother to my parents. “Snakes, why did it have to be snakes.” Wonderful movie with a nonstop action that’s actually funny.
Jaws I was hesitant to watch Jaws for some reason but afterwards I was like, This movie rocks! “We’re going to need a bigger boat.” Love this and yes, no ocean for me!
North by Northwest I went on a Hitchcook binge and this was one of them I watched. It was good and I really enjoyed this one. But it doesn’t stand out for me.
The Deer Hunter Okay, didn’t like this one. I will leave it at that.
Taxi Driver In the end, no I didn’t like this but I could appreciate the movie. And I’m not one to “appreciate” movies.
Bonnie and Clyde Another one I didn’t totally get. I enjoyed the story and new it because I’m a history buff and this happened in my area of the Midwest. But that ending…
Sound of Music I watched this in high school band, don’t ask. I would like to rewatch it again.
Bridge on the River Kwai Like this one and I’ve seen it a couple of times. The ending where you want the bridge to blow is so suspenseful.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs I have seen this a few times as a kid but it wasn’t one of the most requested Disney videos. Never did go for witches.
All About Eve This was fabulous!! Love this movie and it felt very modern even in black and white. One of my recommended films for anyone to watch.
High Noon One of the iconic westerns that I just had to watch. Great performances and very suspenseful.
To Kill a Mockingbird I read this book in a day in high school. The movie is wonderful and since it’s been so long I would like to see this again.
ET I saw this so long ago as a kid and when it came out again I took a sister that would never have seen it. We got Reese’s Pieces and soda and popcorn and had a wonderful time. Very wonderful movie.
Chinatown. Didn’t like it at all.
Graduate Couldn’t finish it. Am I missing something?
Psycho I have seen both the original and the remake. The original is so great and so creepy.
Star Wars I haven’t seen the new series or whatever it’s called. But the originals I’ve seen a few times. Very good movie.
Wizard of Oz Seen a long time ago and I just can’t make myself watch it again. My mother hates this movie!
Vertigo What a trip of a movie! Another Hitchcock that I saw a while back. I really came to like Jimmy Stewart thanks to this movie.
Gone with the Wind I’ve got the movie on VHS and went to see it in the movie. And frankly, I do love this movie.
Singin In the Rain I just recently saw this movie and fell in love with it. Now I know where the song, Good Mornin, comes from and that my mom wasn’t making things up!
Casablanca There are so many lines and iconic scenes in this movie that it was like watching a sting of those items. I am glad I’ve seen this to understand those scenes and lines.
Godfather I watched this and wondered what all the hoopla was about. Again, am I missing something?
Citizen Kane What a great movie-sometimes I have a hard time getting into the older movies and/or black and white films. This drew me and kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to unfold next. Very good film.
So now, I’ve seen 31 movies. That means I’ve only got 69 to get watched.
Have a great day, y’all! Ciao!

This n That

June 17, 2007
Made some changes to my bio and to the quotes on the sidebar. Gotten a lot done here lately. This week, with the help of my sister I got our bedroom flip-flopped. Got the house cleaned up and it’s stayed clean. In fact, my mother was impressed when she stopped by for a second. Made a homemade chocolate cake that was fabulous. Tonight, I’ve gone through loose papers floating around and made a dent in that. Got some CD’s uploaded to the computer.
Starting to feel relaxed and less anxious now that I’m off. Starting to get a rhythm established as routines are very important to me. Not only is the surface clutter dealt with but the piles of crap starting to disappear. And the hubby is noticing!
My hair is getting so long as I’ve been growing it out since before I was married. It’s almost been a year (on the 26th of this month!). I’m surprised I haven’t hacked it off yet :) Then again Chris would be pissed. Must not piss off the Sugar Daddy :)
Well, it’s 430 am and I’m off to Wal-Mart. Best time to browse is early morning. Have a great Father’s Day. Ciao!
