Wasn’t going to post today

September 29, 2005
However, I got to checking my yahoo page and well-here I am. Mom and dad’s Explorer is down and it’s something to do with the alternator because it keeps sucking the battery dry. So guess who’s car they’ve commadeered? I went home today to sleep in my own bed (which was really nice) and told mom that I wanted picked up at 1000 pm and not have Sarah call my cell because I have no minutes. She tried calling anyway and found out I had no minutes. She also should at 1020 pm. Nice. I was still at work early enough but still. I asked Jeff and he’s going to let me have a room tomorrow so that I don’t have to “inconvenience” anyone with my car. Also, I had $25 to my name that needed to go to other things. This check is going to be incredibly tight so I need every dime and penny to go to the things that they are earmarked for. Instead I had to put that $25 in the gas tank of my car so that my mother could do her errands. My fellow auditor says that I am way to nice and that I should either a) claim my car and tell mom where to shove it or b) call the Broken Arrow PD and report it stolen. Maybe I’m too nice but they do not have any other options and I don’t want to hear mom bitching about what they’re going to do so I have essentially handed the car over. Since the roofers started today I am sort-of homeless and carless. Thank God I work in a hotel.
Now that I’ve spewed all over this post here’s some news that caught my eye today. FEMA is under fire this time for Rita. California is battling wildfires with nearly 2500 acres scorched. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay has been indicted of fundraising violations and have stepped down from his post.
Austin City Limits has released parts of it’s new lineup. It will included Alison Krauss and Union Station, Etta James, Gretchen Wilson, and Miranda Lambert. Check out PBS for all the details and airing dates. Also, we should be close to a new Hillerman/Mystery special. I love the Tony Hillerman novels and I think the Mystery show is fabulous. It’s also produced by Robert Redford and utilizes Native Americans in the cast. Which is cool because the series is on the Navajo reservation in Arizona.
We lost today, again. I’m done till tomorrow with the Cards. We have both Wild Card races up in the air and the AL East and Central that hasn’t been decided. Padres clinched the NL West today so the NL looks like this: East is Atlanta, Central is Cards, West is Padres. In the AL the only one decided is West with Angels clinching. AL East has NY over Boston by a game. In the Central it’s Chicago over Cleveland by 3 games. In the AL Wild Card its a tie between Boston and Cleveland. In the NL Wild Card its Houston over Philly by 2. So with all that said the National League playoff will look like this: Cards vs. Padres and Atlanta vs. Astros (unless something catastrophic happens with them).
Well, y’all, I probably ought to go work. Have a great day.

Hello Wednesday!

September 27, 2005
Well the week is slowly started to roll down. Payday is Friday and although I am going to have nothing left at least I can pay my bills. I’ll stayover at the hotel on Friday till checks come in so that will be nice. Been staying at mom’s the past couple of days-the roofers were suppose to do their thing this week. I, however, am looking forward to sleeping in my own bed.
Lynndie England got a three year sentence. She was able to see her young son before the jury came back with the sentence. Utah State University van that wrecked was speeding when it blew a tire. The wreck killed eight students and an instructor.
Baseball is gearing up for a final few games. There’s now a tie in the AL East between Boston and New York. The AL Wild Card is a three way tie between Boston, NY, and Cleveland. The AL West has been decided with the Angels winning. The Braves clinched their 14th Division. In the NL Wild Card Houston leads Philly by 3. By the way, we lost 1-3 today. We send Carpenter to the mound today at 710 pm to battle the Astro’s Backe. Go Cards!
Well, y’all, I’ll see ya tomorrow.

Missing: Jennifer Kay Wix

September 26, 2005

Jennifer Kay Wix, aka Jen, has been missing since March 25, 2004 from Cross Plains, Tennessee. Jennifer was born 8/16/82 and was 22 at her disappearance. She is a white female with a dark complexion, 5′6″ and 135 pounds. She has brown hair with red highlights and brown eyes. She occasionally wears glasses with silver oval wire frames. She has a tribal tattoo on her lower back, pierced tongue, and double pierced ears. She may have been wearing a gray cap with “Ford” on the front.
She was last seen with her daughter Adrianna Wix who is also missing (see photo). They were dropped off by Jennifer’s boyfriend at a gas station near exit 112 off of I-65. She had an argument with her boyfriend (whom she lived with along with his parents). He dropped her off at the gas station and watched her get into a white four door early 90’s midsize car. She returned the next day to her boyfriend’s house with Adrianna for her income tax money. When she was unable to get it she said she would pick it up the next day. She hasn’t been seen since. Anyone with information should contact the Robertson County Sheriff’s Department at 615-384-7971.

Light News

September 26, 2005
Not much going on in the news. Rita apparently did more damage to rural-read poor-areas of Texas and Louisiana. Refineries have apparently made it through the storm without damage but could be a week before they are operational again. Gas prices are steady-thank God-but I do wish they would drop some. Pfc Lynndie England has been convicted of six of the seven counts against her. Sentencing starts Tuesday.
Don Adams passed away on Sunday from lung infection. He was 82. He played Maxwell Smart in the TV series Get Smart. Adams was also a Marine-he enlisted in 1941-and was in Gaudalcanal. Would you believe that Smart has died?
Well the Yanks are in first, followed by the Red Soxs. Chicago White Sox is leading Cleveland by two games. Atlanta is one game away from clinching the NL East. San Diego is leading the NL West over San Francisco by four games. Wild Card races in the AL is Cleveland leading Boston by a half game. In the NL its Houston and then Phillies by a game and a half.
Florida Marlins have released pitcher AJ Burnett after disparaging comments made by Burnett to the media. He was told his services were no longer needed and to leave which he did. Burnett has a 90+ mph fastball and is sure to pick up a contract for next year.
Morris takes on Oswalt tonight in the first of a two game series with Houston. Game time is 710 at St Louis. Well, y’all, see ya tomorrow.

So I didn’t post on Friday

September 26, 2005
And I almost didn’t get to post today. We have had a lot of Rita evacuees in house. So things have been crazy. No news today or sports for that matter. I got around to watching Finding Neverland with Johnny Depp here lately. It was excellent, in fact this goes on my Christmas/Birthday wish list. It wasn’t overly sentimental, it didn’t make Barre odd or like Michael Jackson, and it gave a great ending. Go ahead and take a trip to Neverland you’ll love it, especially if you’ve ever seen the Walt Disney animate classic of Peter Pan. On the other hand, House of Sand and Fog was not that well received. It had Peter Kingsley, Ron Eldred (he use to be in ER way back when it was still good), and Jennifer Connolly. The story of a house and the two lives/families that are destroyed over this house. Yeah, it wasn’t my cup of tea and I wouldn’t recommend it.
As for the fall schedule I’m in love with Bones and Prison Break. Both are great fictional stories that have me hooked. I thought Horatio nailed it at the beginning of last weeks CSI Miami when he said, “Here we go.” We know Calleigh is going back to lab, now we known that H has blood on his hands, and what else is going to happen this season? As for the original CSI my jaw dropped when it was announced Warrick is married. I think Catherine nailed it on the head when she said that fantasy is great when there’s an outside chance of it coming true. Take away that outside chance and it’s disappointing. I got sucked into Ghost Whisperer this weekend-mainly because of the ghost that’s also on Prison Break-and I’ll probably check it out next week. Cold Case, Crossing Jordan, and Without a Trace will round out my TV time. Then we also have play-offs this fall.
Well, y’all, I think I’ve rambled enough about asinine things. I’ll see ya tomorrow.

Can I go home?

September 22, 2005
It’s Friday and it’s about time. This week has been an experiment in frustration. I didn’t blog yesterday because the boss stayed till about 130 am getting some rooms set up for the British School in Houston. I’ve got a ton of arrivals tonight left to arrive and most are from Houston area. Don’t worry, y’all, we’ll keep your rooms! I’m not going to mention the news.
Baseball I will touch on. The first thing I thought of when I heard Hurricane Rita was going to hit Houston was to check the schedule. Baseball schedule that is. We’re okay and it looks like the Astros are scheduled to be out of town for a few days. Astros have a weekend set in Chicago, Monday is an off day, and then a two day stretch in St Louis. Then its back to Minute Maid. Crews have secured the roof, sandbag areas that could flood, and taken equipment out of offices with windows. The crews are also working to keep phone and computer systems on line. Wives and families that flew to Chicago for the weekend are encouraged to go with the team to STL. Astros management are also looking into possible venues for that last homestretch that starts next Thursday and running through the 3rd of October (a Sunday). If I was a betting person, I would bet that we’re going to be facing Houston in the post season play. I wish the players, families, and crews the best of luck in the coming days.
In the AL East its Yanks over Boston by a game. Chicago in the AL Central over Cleveland by a game and a half. Come on Boston-let’s keep the Yanks out of post season play. We got swept by the Cubs this weekend and swept by the Reds this week. We’re headed to Milwaukee and maybe the bullpen can figure out what the deal is. It’s not starting pitching so much as the relievers. With Izzy getting close to 40 you know it’s not the closer. Carpenter is first up tonight at 705, than Mulder on Saturday at 605, and Suppan on Sunday at 105 pm. After Sunday we have five games left-two with Houston and 3 with the Reds. With this weekends three games and the last five we need four wins to hit 100.
Well, y’all, I need to go. And a footnote-I just checked in people from Houston. Their first cart of luggage upstairs was a large suitcase, a cooler, two clear plastic containers one of which was snacks and the other held files, and on top a teddy bear. What would you grab if you could just fill your car?

Can I go home?

September 21, 2005
I’ve got everything done here at work and I’m waiting till four am to start breakfast. I’m so far ahead of things I just may be behind :) . No real good news in the news-can someone somewhere come up with something good? Maybe it’s too much to ask for.
Hurricane Rita is gaining strength after hitting the Keys. She’s expected to hit anywhere from Mexico to Louisiana as a Category 3 or 4. Texas is the primary target so far and they are evacuating the evacuees to Arkansas.
Back to the moon in under thirteen years. Who’s on the first trip? Well if it was me it would be Bush, Clinton, Palmiero, reality “stars”, those two annoying people on What Not to Wear, and maybe some siblings. Of course as I write this I keep hearing, “To the moon, Alice, to the moon!” And I’m too young to remember this series!
Two girls in Klamath Falls Oregon has been charged with attempted murder on Tuesday. Apparently they put rat poison into the milk cartons of two fellow classmates. After the classmates finished the milk they found the green pellets at the bottom. Not the best thing to discover in the bottom of your milk. They were sent to the hospital and checked out fine. The girls on the other hand are at juvie hall.
Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O’Connell are engaged. Jerry O’Connell is on Crossing Jordan as the detective. Rebecca Romijn used to be a model now an actress and formerly married to John Stamos (Uncle Jesse from Full House).
New fall TV has started and I really like the new series Bones on Fox. Glad to see lots of familiar faces back. Especially nice to see some form of CSI on Monday. Horatio is one of the best in the CSI franchise and the fact they have added some dark components to his past will make this season wonderful. I can’t wait for the original CSI to premier on Thursday. Poor Nick has to be a mess after being buried by Quentin Tarratino.
We lost 6-5 and it wasn’t pretty. What’s happened to our starting staff-hey guys the season isn’t over yet. Don’t have a melt down yet! Marquis is on the mound tonight at 610 pm.
Well, y’all, I will see ya tomorrow.

Another day another complaint

September 19, 2005
Working in the hotel business has its perks. One of which is that I am able to read the USA Today when it comes in. I have serious beef really with a lot of media outlets but specifically USA Today. There was absolutely no mention of the Cards clinching the NL Central so early. No pictures of the guys tossing the champagne. No little blurb about the celebration. No mention of post season tickets going on sale on Monday in St Louis. Nothing. We’re 95-56 (best record in the Majors!) and this is the disrespect we get. Someone on ESPN said it well, I believe. (Paraphrasing) “The Cards have been flying under the radar for the past two years because they have played so well.” Yeah and if this was the Yankees there would still be nightly updates on who they played and how they did. There would be pictures in the USA Today. The national media has dropped the ball on this and someone should call an error.
Okay, I think I’m done ranting. By the way, those post season tickets that went on sale sold out in two hours. World Series tickets will be sold later. Suppan is on the mound at Cincinnati for a 610 pm game.
Chrysler has announced that the Dodge Neon will no longer be produced. Last one will role off on Friday with little fanfare. The replacement will be a car called the Caliber. All I have to say is yuck. When did it become okay for station wagons to come back? The new SUV’s that are built on car chassis look like station wagons and this looks like a mini-wagon. Anyway, the Neon was introduced in 1994 as a ‘95 model. May remember the cute ads that introduced the Neon-all it said was, “Hi.” I think everyone has either had one or ridden in one. My sister had a purple Neon that got totaled when some idiot went through the yard (missing the street curve) and hit her car sitting in the driveway.
More bad news from the hurricane front. Rita is strengthening in the warm waters off of Florida and is expected to be upgraded to a Cat-1 Hurricane. The Florida Keys are being evacuated of visitors and locals are encouraged to leave. The real problem could begin with where Rita goes after hitting the Keys. The warm waters of the Gulf could fuel the hurricane and it could hit anywhere from Mexico to Texas to Louisiana.
John Kerry and John Edwards have both blasted Bush yesterday. I’m sorry, when did the 2008 Presidential elections get underway. Campaigning for three years is a little extreme isn’t it?
In baseball today Boston is hanging on in the AL East by a half game over the Yankees. White Sox lead the AL Wild Card by 2.5 over Cleveland. I never thought I would say it, but Go Boston. Maybe we if we all work together we can keep the Yanks out of postseason. In the NL side Houston is on top, Philly is down by a game, Florida by 2, and Washington by 4 games.
Well, y’all, I’ll see ya tomorrow.

Slow weekend

September 19, 2005
Not much going on in the world this weekend. We clinched the playoff on Saturday and I had Sarah put the red streaks in my hair. Sure I’ll have them till playoffs. Schwarzenegger is going to seek reelection in the California governors race. Chai Soua Vang has been convicted on six counts of first degree murder in Wisconsin in the shooting deaths of the six deer hunters. We lost Friday and Sunday. We won on Saturday but was still swept by the Cubbies. We take a day off today. That’s it-I don’t have anything else. See y’all tomorrow.
