OH MY GOD

July 29, 2005
It’s Friday!!! About time!!! We’ve had a ball team in house this week and it has truly been hell. These ballparents think they own the hotel because they have 30 rooms in house. Well, la-it-frickin-da. I manage to piss them off last night so I like to think I ended the week on a good note!
The only thing I’m passing on is that the Redbirds are in LA facing the Dodgers. Since Gagne is still gone (who is their closer) I’m not going to worry anyone. Tonight’s game is at 900 pm and Saturday and Sunday is at 305 pm. Oh, and Carpenter is the first 15 game winner in the NL. We’ve got Walker, Rolen, Sanders, and Molina on the DL. And our AAA-Memphis call-ups have been absolutely wonderful. J-Rod just may be the fourth outfield LaRussa and Jockety have been looking for since the season started. Go Cards!!
See y’all next week!

Wow!!!

July 27, 2005
It’s only 68 degrees! The cold front has slid through Tulsa and it’s finally cooling down here in town. With the rain, cool wind, and the cool temps it feels heavenly outside. It would be a great night to open the windows, grab an extra blanket, and wake up with a sinus infection. Ha-ha.
Well, it’s more tragedy in the news. Although nothing as bleak as yesterday. A Greyhound bus overturned yesterday in Maryland. It closed down northbound I-95 for hours and 14 were injured. Natalee Hollaway story update: they’re draining a lake/pond close to the Marriott looking for Natalee. I got a feeling we’re going to have a solution to this case very soon.
Space shuttle Discovery launched yesterday morning. I missed it-took a pain pill and a muscle relaxer and crashed. Hard. Apparently some debris came off the shuttle and engineers are looking at it. Prayers that the crew and shuttle make it home in one piece.
Boston Red Sox pitcher Matt Clement was hit in the head by a line drive. Laid on the ground for about five minutes and replays showed that it literally knocked him off his feet. He’s in a Florida (they played the Devil Rays) hospital and doing good. I imagine he’ll be on the DL for a few days.
A little history for you: on this day in 1953 an armistice was signed ending the Korean War. There was 33 741 US dead with 26 615 of those KIA (killed in action). Roughly twenty years later a sitcom would premier that took place in the Korean War. That sitcom was called MASH. Also on this date in 1995 the Korean War Veterans Memorial was dedicated in DC.
Greg Maddux of the Cubs has struck out 3000 batters. Congrats Maddux and welcome to the club. We won today-and I get to go home and watch the game because I recorded it. We play tonight at 910 (with a replay on Bj’s VCR at 730 am). We’re 10.5 games up over Houston and 12.5 over the Cubs.
Well y’all, I see ya tomorrow

Hot in the Midwest

July 26, 2005
Of course, now that this heatwave is heating the East Coast it’s big news. Those of us here in the middle of the country have known all along what hot, humid, and miserable is like. No baseball news tonight-we were off. The boys are in San Diego (910 CST) and are probably enjoying the cooler air. It’s expected to be in the upper seventies and lows in the sixties-when can I move?
Four Boy Scout leads died Monday at the huge camping festival Jamboree. Jamboree is held at Fort AP Hill outside of DC. Apparently a supporting tent pole came in contact with an overhead powerline. Jamboree is expected to go on.
A three year old boy in Norcross, Georgia, was killed in a hit and run accident. What makes this story so tragic is that he was staying with friends of his mothers while she was in the hospital giving birth to his new sister. Little of no clues and mom is begging for any information.
Oh-an update to day on the “cool” mom out Colorado (I believe a suburb of Denver). This is the mom who gave booze, sex, and drugs to high school kids so they would think she was cool. She plead guilty to two misdemeanor counts of sexual assault and nine felony counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. No word on sentencing. Maybe she’ll be a cool inmate.
Well, y’all that’s all i got and I don’t got no more:). See y’all tomorrow

Wasted days and wasted nights

July 25, 2005

No, I’m not taking up drinking. (yet :) ) Temps topped 100 degrees on my nights off (or rather the days I was off) and it was miserable. Mom and I went to a new Mexican restaurant this weekend-very good. Of course, it was even better because I had free passes from work. Got groceries, went to church, all in all a very tame weekend. Now I’m back to the week and looking forward to banging my head on the wall. It seems the full moon has decided to stick around. Or maybe that’s just the softball teams in house-hard to know. I found the pictures of my car that sister Sarah wrecked. Bye-bye car.
Forget the news today. Lance Armstrong won his seventh Tour de France and is retiring at the top of his game. We lost 2 of 3 to the cubs. With Molina, Reggie, and Rolen on the DL we may be in trouble if we can’t step up at the plate. We’re off tonight and then we play San Diego on Tuesday. It’s Mulder vs Woody Williams at 910 tomorrow.
Well y’all places to go and people to annoy. See ya tomorrow.

Beam me up, Scotty

July 21, 2005
Hot, humid, and more hot-that’s the description of this summer so far. Of course, I’m staying cool by working nights and avoiding going out in the day. There’s a heat advisory from 1 pm today to 700 pm Saturday. Temps read like we’re living in Arizona-102, 103, 103, 100, and then we’re back to the nineties. Of course it could be worse-Phoenix is calling for 114 today. There have been 18 deaths related to the heat wave in Phoenix this summer. Most of these are homeless. I just have to wonder, we collect coats in the winter-what could we collect and distribute in the summer for the homeless? Any brilliant ideas?
Gay marriage is now legal in Canada. Also the Netherlands, Belgium, and Spain have okayed gay unions. So, all the liberals, Democrats, and gays are headed for Canada. That leaves the conservatives, Republican, and straight folks in the US, right?
James Doohan passed away yesterday morning, he was 85. Doohan suffered from Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, diabetes, and pneumonia in his last days. Doohan is most famous as Scotty, the Scottish chief engineer on Star Trek. He was born March 3, 1920 in Vancouver, Canada. Doohan served in the Canadian Army and was in the Allied Force that landed in Normandy on D-Day. He was shot 6 times and lost a finger but returned to duty to become a military pilot. His will be cremated and those remains will be shot into space on the next spaceship headed for outer space.
A little history before the sports today. The James Gang pulled off the first train robbery west of the Mississippi River on this date in 1873. They then moved on to banks in addition to trains and then Hollywood movies. Or am I skipping a few decades?
Looks like the NHL is good to go. Now are the fans coming back?
Kenny Rogers’ appeal will be Friday in Milwaukee before Bud Selig. Rogers will start Thursday, which could be his last start for twenty games. In my opinion it shouldn’t be 20 games, but 20 starts that he’s banned from. Twenty games could equate to only 4-5 starts for a pitcher. That’s not enough “punishment” for what he did to that cameraman.
STL won today, 4-2. JRod (John Rodriguez) had his first homer and his first curtain call tonight. I’m really starting to like this kid-Hey skipper lets keep this one. Izzy is now third on the list of Cardinal saves. He passed Bruce Sutter (127), is right behind Todd Worrell (129), and is looking to pass Lee Smith (160). I think it’s great that Izzy wants to pass Smith, gives us all a reason to cheer. Today’s game is at 100 pm with Marquis on the mound
Well, y’all, I see ya tomorrow.

Man-what a day

July 20, 2005
My butt is really dragging-thank God I can go crash. Sister Sarah made it to Dallas just fine. She and her best friend’s mom went down to get the best friend. I booked a room on line for them and they had no problems getting there. They should be back today after going down yesterday.
An eight year old has been charged with killing his seven month old stepsister. He was apparently jealous of the attention and mad that she wouldn’t stop crying. A 2×4 was involved in the attack. The parents were outside with friends on the patio.
Hurricane Emily apparently knocked on Texas’ door but didn’t hit it head on-Emily is headed for Mexico. A little history today-1969 Neil Armstrong walked on the moon.
We lost today-but that’s okay, Yankees also lost. Our new outfielder, John Rodriguez, is looking like a major leaguer. He’s got “JRod” on the back of his cleats. Mulder takes the mound for game 3 of 4 at 710 tonight.
See ya’ll later.

Quick post

July 19, 2005
I am so sleepy today-had a meeting at work yesterday so I’m running on 6 hours of sleep after getting 2 restless hours on Sunday. I am so ready to crash. Not much going on today-there maybe a break in the Holloway case in Aruba. Details later. Retired General William Westmoreland passed away Monday of natural causes. He was 91. Westmoreland was the commander of the troops in Nam. He saw action in North Africa, Sicily, and Europe in WWII. He retired from active duty in 1972. He will be buried at West Point with the funeral in Charleston, his hometown.
We won today, 11-4. Pujols almost hit for the cycle-just needed a triple. It’s our fifth straight win and Matt Morris’ 10th of the year. Reggie broke his leg and is on the DL. This happened Friday in the game against the Astros when he and Edmonds collided in the outfield. Suppan’s going for the win tonight at 700 against the Brew Crew.
See ya later.

Good God is it Friday!

July 18, 2005
I am so sick of ball teams. I am so sick of being the last to know anything. I am so sick of car wrecks! No this isn’t a “What I am sick of” post. I’ve got another ball team in house and again here they are at 130 am in the breakfast room having a ball. Parents are drinking, kids are loud, and generally driving me mad. This happened Thursday night with a different team and the breakfast room was TRASHED. I ended up with a huge garbage bag of their beer bottles and food containers, the room was trashy and tables were totally messed up. Were they raised in a barn? And another team tonight, although they kept it short and sweet in the breakfast room. As for car wrecks some idiot wasn’t watching as he was pulling out of his parking spot and got the passenger side of my car. Here we go again with the insurance company.
Not much in the news this weekend. Judge Rehnquist left the hospital. Sandra Bullock and Jesse James (think motorcycles and not trains) got married this weekend. Victor Conte of Balco (steroids) plead guilty. Tiger won St. Andrews and Jack Niklaus retired this weekend. Bonds is doubtful about this year. No skin off my nose on that front.
Cards won on Friday, 4-3. If you missed this game you really missed something. Edmonds and Sanders made contact in the outfield, Reggie’s out with a bruised rib and a strained ankle. Astros got a run in the top of the 13th to make it 3-2 and then Pujols answered with a two run homer in the bottom of the 13th. Great, great game. Saturday we won 4-2 with some great pitching by Marquis. Today’s game was Carpenter versus Clemens and what a duel. We won 3-0 in a game that lasted 1 hour and 59 minutes. Carpenter becomes the NLs first 14 game winner. We’re now 59-32 for the season and like 13 games over Astros and 13.5 over Cubs. Today is Morris on the mound as we take on the Brew Crew at 710.
See ya’ll tomorrow.

It’s Friday!

July 15, 2005
What a week! Especially at work where we’ve had two different boys baseball teams in and now a reunion. We’ve been full for the past three days and we’re trashed! All trash cans are full and it’s packed on top of the trashcan in the breakfast room. They played poker in the breakfast room most of the night and god was it messy when they left. But I’m off and I’m off of here.
See y’all next week
