This is the End…

February 21, 2008

Or at least I think it is. I’ve really struggled the past few days with needing to blog. It has become a to-do item similar to scrubbing the toilet or unloading the dishwasher. This should be fun, exciting, and a want-to-do type of thing. I’ve got two other blogs-food and books-but this one is going to be put on deep freeze.

I really do doubt I will give this CPR but who knows what will happen in just a few months. For now, this is the right decision. I wish my few faithful readers happy reading.

For now, Ciao!

F is for…

February 9, 2008

My favorite thing to say when I’m fustrated is “fudgesicles in the month of May!” Don’t ask me why. But I do love a good fudgesicle.

Fudge!! I love fudge! I enjoy making it-so much cheaper than buying it in a candy shop. I like the chocolate fudge best. I tried some mint chocolate at the fair and it was awesome! I would like to travel up Route 66 up to Claremore to visit a candy shop/nut store and get some!

Family is another thing that’s important to me.P1000330

The top picture is me and my mom at Wal-Mart. The bottom is my sister Amanda with her youngest daughter Gabby. Gabby is the niece I watched this fall. I don’t have any pics of my dad, sisters Faith and Sarah, or my brother Jacob. Nor do I have pictures of Manda’s two other kids, John and Anna.

My family for now is just Chris and I; hopefully God will bless us with little ones of our own.

By the way, this is how Chris acts most of the time!!

E is for…

February 8, 2008

How about Esoteric? It means understood by or meant for only a few or to be private, secret, and confidential. I’ve only come up with a couple of things for today. And they aren’t anything concrete.

One is emotional-as I am very emotional. I can cry at the drop of the bucket and I’ve been known to cuss like a sailor when I get upset. My hubby says I’m always mad or upset or crying. Poor guy. But it is rather rare when I’m not a hurricane inside. And yet, I try to make everything analytical and not based on what I am feeling. Conflicted would be another word, wouldn’t it?

Employed was the other word that came up. Why is it so darn hard to find a decent job? It took three applications, two interviews, and one telephone call to get hired. Oh and six weeks. But I wanted this job desperately. Finally got and I do love it. I turned in a few apps for a night audit position but didn’t get any bites. Perhaps I’m too experienced in that field and want too much money :)

So that’s the E’s. Tomorrow the F’s. Have a great day.

D is for…

February 7, 2008

This is my drug of choice. I don’t drink too many other flavors of soda pop. 7-Up is okay (I like to drink that when I have Jelly Bellies), Coke is just okay. Haven’t had an RC Cola in forever. I hate Pepsi-tastes like dirt to me. Gross.

I don’t like the imitation DPs. No Doctor Thunder or Mr Pibb for me thank you. Just Dr Pepper. I’ll drink it from a bottle or a can, a glass, or a fountain. And I’m picky. I can taste when something is off. When the carbonation isn’t just so-so or whatever when I get it from a soda fountain. And I won’t drink it. My hubby thinks I’m weird!

So there you got it-the one thing I could come up for the “D”s. Tomorrow we’re “E”!

C is for…

February 3, 2008

Coffee and coffee ice cream and well anything coffee flavored!

I like espresso, frappuccino, and anything that’s a variant on the coffee flavoring. I don’t like instant coffee but do have some on hand for baking. My coffee is served with two scant spoonfuls of sugar and a touch of either milk or half and half. Please and thank you.

Chocolate!! Of course I love chocolate. I like it plain, I like it with yummy stuff like caramel and peanuts. I love dark chocolate. I like hot chocolate. I like chocolate pie and chocolate cake and chocolate candy. Of course, the darker the better!

Best hot chocolate ever: take a large mug and pour 3/4 full of milk. Add 1 tablespoon (heaping) of cocoa, 2 tablespoons sugar, and a drizzle of vanilla. Microwave (or heat on the stove in a saucepan) for 1 minute 30 seconds. Stir. Keep nuking till steaming. Add coffee liqueur if desired. Oh my.

Candles-on of my favorites. I have really gotten low in the candle department. Mainly because I refuse to buy ones that don’t smell or don’t smell good. And $5+ on candles won’t be an option till after this month. Chris got me a nice size one for Christmas that I love to take into the bathroom and shower by. Forget candle-lit baths I am all for candle-lit showers! I have a tart burner from Yankee Candle Company and I love to go in there twice a year, spend $30 on tarts and enjoy. Chris doesn’t mind the minimal amount of light and the smell is so pleasing. I try to light one before we go to bed. Yes, I do keep it away from everything, sitting on a shelf where it can’t light something on fire.

Cooking! I mentioned this yesterday, right? Anyhoo-I love being in the kitchen. That’s me above-I wonder where that shirt went???-just happy as a clam in my kitchen. The list of things I don’t like to cook is fairly short-fish, frogs, shell fish. I am a land locked Midwest girl! I don’t have too much patience for cookies but if I take my book that I’m reading into the kitchen with me it’s not so bad. I love to make cakes, bars, and anything savory.

The one thing I don’t have a picture of is Chimi’s Mexican Restaurant here in Tulsa. We go once a month because of me! We get the salsa and chips, of course, and order some queso. I always order the Sonoran enchilada-chicken chunks rolled up in a corn tortilla topped with a white sauce, tomatillo sauce, and then some Montery Jack cheese. 2 please with rice and beans. Oh-and unsweet tea with no lemon. I am intent on going there for my birthday later this month. I so cannot wait.

And of course, C is for my hubby Christopher. Sometimes known as Mr. Wonderful. Otherwise known as Mr. Grumpy. Indian name is Scratchy Ass. He’s a real gift from God and I thank God everyday for this man. Chris has shown me just how much God loves. If he can love me as much as he does and he’s just mortal it blows my mind to ponder how much God loves me. He makes me laugh, cry, yell, scream, and sigh. He can drive me nuts, drive me up the wall, and drive me crazy. But when I get back he’ll be right here, loving me the best he can. God bless you, Chris. I love you so damn much, baby.

So, lot’s of C’s. Tomorrow we all get a “D”!

B is for Baseball…St Louis Cardinals baseball. Huge fan. Have been since Ozzie was playing shortstop in the 80’s. He’s now retired and in the Hall of Fame. I’m still cheering. Go Cards!

Books! I love to read-have my own book blog. I love just about anything except sci-fi/fantasy. I read lots of mystery, some fiction, memoirs/biographies attract me. I like nonfiction and love the reference section of the library. I really enjoy cookbooks. I read them like a regular book, pour over recipes. If they are library books I bookmark those I want to copy. I read somewhere north of 75 books a year!

2-for-1! I love the color blue! It’s the predominate color in my wardrobe. I once had a bedroom painted sky blue. I also love blue jeans. I will live in my jeans if I could! Blue also conjure up the spirit of depression-Christmas blues hit me hard every year :( It’s the color of the sky that is just perfect for laying underneath and watching clouds go by. Blue can also be the color of my tongue after an Ocean Water from Sonic!

Not my high school….but I was in band. Played flute for seven years and sax for one or two. The high school I went to was so small if you were in band you were in concert, pep, marching, contest band. Yeah. Full of activities-there were two parades (a fall fair in a nearby town and a Christmas parade), playing at basketball games (so small we don’t have football!), participating in contest (which was the pre-state contest), there was two or three concerts a year. We played along side the different high school and junior high choirs. Found memories of butt-ugly uniforms, fifty gallon hats, bus trips, and a gym full of sweat, popcorn, and sneakers squeaking on the hardwood. Good times. I still have my flute. Someday I will get it out and try it again.

As I was compiling this I was munching on one of my favorite snacks: BBQ potato chips! Another B!

This is fun…can’t wait to work on C!

Apples!

I love apples. I don’t like the red delicious variety instead give me Gala’s, Braeburns, or Granny Smith.

I love apples in pastries-we call them bear claws although that isn’t the name of them. They are called apple turnovers or something similar but they aren’t the traditional turnovers. This is a dark cinnamon pastry with chunks of apples. Heaven when it’s warm.

I love apple pie-minus the cheese please.

I love apples baked in cinnamon and raisins.

I love caramel apples.

I like apples dunked in melted chocolate.

I like grabbing an apple on the way out the door. Especially when I forget to brush my teeth :)

A is also for Asparagus casserole! A family tradition that I don’t have a picture of (guess I’ll just have to make it soon!).

A is for my Aussie reader, Mal. Okay going for Australia but I don’t know much nor been there. However Mal is known as “My Aussie reader”. Hi Mal!

So there you have it-an abbreviated list of A!

The Narcissistic Month

February 1, 2008

Back in August several bloggers were doing the Encyclopedia of Me Meme based on a book by Amy Rosenthal titles Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life. Haven’t read the book still but the entries were amusing and enjoyable. So I’ve decided to stretch myself this month by sharing more of myself. So a letter a day for the month. I choose February because it’s got 28 days (29 this year!) so I’ve got only three extra days if I need them.

It’s depressing, isn’t it, when you get both get paid and then it’s gone. Valentine’s doesn’t look like it will happen for us this year. My birthday is after the payday on the fifteenth but we’re still going to be so darn tight. Maybe I can con one or both sets of parents into paying for my dinner out that night. What I really want is an iPod. Green nano 4 gigabyte music player for 150+tax. What I also want is to go back to Missouri at the end of March for my grandma’s 75th birthday. Come hell or high water we’re going. Besides, Chris hasn’t seen where I grew up!

Anyhoo-I’m going to go finish checking blogs. Have a great weekend.

30 years to late…

January 21, 2008

I was born thirty years too late…

You are a Hippie

You are a total hippie. While you may not wear birks or smell of incense, you have the soul of a hippie.
You don’t trust authority, and you do as you please. You’re willing to take a stand, even when what you believe isn’t popular.
You like to experiment with ideas, lifestyles, and different subcultures.
You always gravitate toward what’s radical and subversive. Normal, mainstream culture doesn’t really resonate with you.

Classic Reel

January 14, 2008

So I’ve been a movie kick-have been for some time-and have lots of notes but have not done a proper review, per se, of what I’ve seen. Part of the reason why is the question of what new could I add to what’s been written about these movies? So here’s a few of my thoughts about what I’ve seen.

Annie Hall is of course a Woody Allen flick. It’s the first Allen flick I’ve ever seen and would not have seen it if it hadn’t been for AFI. I liked the beginning-was different with Woody talking to the camera. Actually, it’s his character, Alvie Singer, that’s talking to the camera. And Alvie is the neurotic New Yorker I love to avoid. The dialog is banal and yet, I have this suspicion this is what real life sounds like in person. A lot of stars-Christopher Walken, Paul Simon-just to name two. Did I like this? Not really. At least it was watch able.

Grand Hotel is where nothing happens. Or rather the precise quote: “Grand Hotel. People coming, people going. Nothing ever happens here.” The way that several stories intertwined was interesting and I like how guests would pass by each other and the story would pick up with the new guy. The hotel itself is so art-deco you know that this is a classic-I wonder what happened to the set? The actually film shots actually took my breath away in some parts. The cast is amazing-Greta Garbo, Lionel Barrymore, Joan Crawford. However, I still had a hard time sitting through this movie-I took a couple of breaks. Perhaps my growing up in the era of boom-boom-bang-bang accounts for this.

Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb is maybe one of the longest titles ever. And the most inane, insane, and well my most unliked movie. I kept looking at my hubby and asked several times if this was one of those movies that you had to survive the 60’s to understand. This is one of those movies that is supposed to be so darn funny-but where’s the punch line? Oh-and the cowboy pilot of the B-52 is Slim Pickens.

The General is easily the oldest movie on my queue-it’s a silent film from 1927. It’s the first Buster Keaton movie I’ve seen (I know I need to get out more :)) and was the longest movie with only organ music as background. So many classic images in this movie-where he sits on the bar between the train wheels and is lifted up and down. The solo rail car he furiously pumps. It was good-just long.

I’ve fallen in love this weekend with Mae West! Saw two of her movies-I’m No Angel and She Done Him Wrong. What can I saw-she was all woman-bawdy, sexual, maneater. So many great lines. I want several of her movies so I can quote Mae to my man. I saw a man in your future. What only one? Oh and a very young Cary Grant is in these movies. Without the veneer of sophisticated debonair that I know of him in later movies. So so good. I always did like a man in a uniform and that one fits you grand. Why don’t you come up sometime see me. I’m alone every evening.

So what’s next? Joe vs. the Volcano is in from Netflix. I’ve got The Quiet Man, Rebecca, and The Honeymoon Killers and a documentary from A&E TV on the Alamo in the queue. Hmmmm, still can’t decide what’s next!
